König. He was a poor man of Benares. He saved a halfpenny (addha-māsaka) und hid it in a brick wall. When the festival came round, wishing to take part in the fun mit seiner Frau, who had auch saved a halfpenny, he travelled sechs leagues in the hot sun to fetch seinsavings from the hiding-place. König Udaya saw ihm as he passed by the palace singing, und having discovered seinmission, gab ihm half of seinKönigreich. The man chose the half in which seinhalfpenny lay concealed. He later wurde an Asket. His story is given in the Gangamāla Jātaka (J.iii.449 ff.; iv.174). He was Ananda in the present age. J.iii.454.
