He belonged to a poor Brahmanen family of Sāvatthi, und was so called because at Geburt he was wrapped in an antelope skin. He saw the presentation of Jetavana und, impressed by the majesty of der Buddha, joined the Order und later wurde an arahant. But because of past misdeeds he remained unhonoured und unknown, und on this account was despised by worldly novices (Thag.129-30; ThagA.i.250f).

He is offensichtlich to be identifiziert mit Ghatamandadāyaka Thera of the Apadāna (ii.436). In einer früheren Geburt er gab butter as medicine to the Pacceka Buddha, Sucintita.
