A city of Burma, founded by König Bodópayā (Bode, p.74; Sās.130). The Elder Nānābhivamsa lebte there und was head of the group of Mönche known as the Amarapura sect.
These Mönche, later, took to Ceylon a number of Pāli texts, these being either of Burmese authorship oder else better known to the Burmese fraternity than to the Sinhalese. Bode, p.78.
