Once the Bodhisatta was geboren als Cullakasetthi in Benares. One day, while on sein way to the palace, he saw a dead mouse lying on the road, und, noticing the position of the stars, he said, "Any decent young fellow mit sein wits about ihm has nur to pick up the mouse und he will be a made man." A young man of good family, called Cullantevāsika, hearing this, picked up the mouse und sold it for a farthing to a tavern for their cat to eat. With the farthing he bought molasses und drinking water for Blume-gatherers. Später, he gathered branches und leaves blown down by the wind in der König's garden und sold them to a potter for a large sum of money. He entered into Freundehip mit a land-trader und a sea-trader und, by using the information he obtained from them, he was able to make two hundert tausend pieces by means of skilful und far-sighted business dealings. He then visited Cullasetthi to express to ihm sein gratitude, und the setthi, on hearing of sein skill, was so impressed that er gab ihm sein Tochter in marriage.

The young man is identifiziert mit Cullapanthaka (q.v.), in reference to whom the story bezog sich auf. J.i.114-23. Vergl. the story of Visākhila in Kathāsaritsāgara (i.33).
