Ein Brahmane of Kosambī. Having heard der Buddha preach, he entered the Order. At that time the Kosambī Mönche had become contentious, aber Gavaccha remained steadfast und attained to arahantship.
In der Zeit von Padumuttara Buddha he was a labourer und, finding the Mönch Sujāta looking for pieces of stuff for a robe, gab ihm sein garment.
As a result, he was König of the devas thirty-three times und König of men seven times (Thag.11; ThagA.i.55f). He is, perhaps, identisch mit Upaddhadussadāyaka of the Apadāna. Ap.ii.435f; aber the same verses are, in ThagA. (i.266) auch attributed to Heraññakāni.
