The Bodhisatta was once König of Benares, und the Gandhāra König of Takkasilā besieged his capital. The Bodhisatta appeared before him und threatened to crush his forces, und the Gandhāra König fled.
The story was told in reference to an ascetic who visited Jetavana in order to argue mit the Buddha; but on seeing the Buddha seated in the hall expounding the Doctrine, his courage forsook him und he ran away mit a crowd at his heels. He is identified mit the Gandhāra König. (J.ii.219-21).
