Sohn von a rājā in Vesāli, in the Vajjian territory. At that time Vesāli was faced by the dreifold terror of drought, disease und demons. Der Buddha quelled the panic by preaching the Ratana Sutta. In the great concourse of listeners was the rājā's Sohn who thereupon left the world. He dwelt in the Añjana-vana, und in the rainy season, having procured an old couch, he put it on vier stones und covered it all round mit grass, leaving an open space to serve as door; there he spent seintime meditating till he wurde an arahant (Thag.v.55; ThagA.i.127f).
In einer früheren Geburt he was a garland-maker, named Sudassana, und gab Blumen to Padumuttara Buddha. He was sixteen times geboren als a König, named Devuttara.
He is offensichtlich identisch mit Mutthipupphiya of the Apadāna (i.142).
